This is such a basic issue, but it’s apparently eluding me. I have a server with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and I want to share out a folder using Group Policy. I entered in all the appropriate info in GPM (\\server\\shared\\folder name), made sure the folder has Everyone - Full Control Permissions, then ran gpupdate /force, reclogged in, but nothing is mapped still. Event log says the path cannot be found, but I can manually type it in the run box or in explorer and it opens up just fine. I created a test user to make sure it wasn’t just that account, but had the same result. Running net use does not list any shared drives either. There must be something I’m overlooking here… Any help or info to lead me in the right direction would be amazing. Let me know if any info needs to be clarified to help me out here.

Please and Thank you!

The path doesn’t have a trailing \\ at the end by any chance in the GPO?

i.e. \\myfileshare\\ishere\\ok****

instead of - \\myfileshare\\ishere\\ok (notice no )

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Can you manually map the drive using the net use command?

{"@type":"Person
davidcannon6385
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/davidcannon6385"}},{"@type":"Answer

How are you setting this in Group Policy? As a preference on the user object or a script?

{"@type":"Person
rockn
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/rockn"}},{"@type":"Answer

I can manually map the drive, yes. Event Viewer gives event ID: 4098. It has a trailing \\ at the end in the GPO, should it not? It is set as a preference on the user object, not a script.

{"@type":"Person
chrisnuscis
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/chrisnuscis"}},{"@type":"Answer

Thank you BSOD’D. Removing that ending \\ worked! :)… I knew it had to be something too simple to notice.

{"@type":"Person
chrisnuscis
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/chrisnuscis"}},{"@type":"Answer
