does anyone know the kind of current this thing draws just charging batteries / if it has parameters to limit current draw below 16 or so amps?

2 Spice ups

I don’t see much on this being documented so may have to see if one of the Eaton folks respond. I would think that it would not take that much to charge the batteries up, most the load it will have is the attached gear. There could be many times the inrush current but most breakers and wire can handle a surge for less than a second.

I do not think you understood the question.

If the UPS normally has a load of say 12 AMPs, and the power was off long enough to drain the batteries, you would not want the UPS to attempt to recharge the batteries at any sort of high rate for multiple reasons:

  • Could easily overwhelm the circuit the UPS is plugged into
  • Charging batteries generates heat, and the faster you are charging the more heat
  • Fast charging of standard batteries is known to degrade or shorten their life.

Thankfully, the UPS manufactures are smart and have designed the battery charging to be slow and cautious. It can take 24 hours to fully recharge UPS batteries depending upon size and battery life.
