I am wanting to use Windows Assigned Access to run a intranet website that needs silverlight to run. however i am at a loss as to how to edit the config to force IE mode when going to the configured intranet site. ideally it would keep the credentials too but this will be running 100% of the time with one page so i can just set the timeout to not expire. but i at least need edge to run the site in IE mode for silverlight to work. any ideas? i don’t have an MDM so i cant use an MDM solution to set that up like i want.

i also don’t see any assigned access config generators anywhere so i would have to make my own by hand, which i don’t know where to even start with that. this is one of the issues with running on such old software, this case its an old version of HighJump WMS

any help is appreciated.

Do you have on-prem Active Directory and can you make use of GPO’s with an Enterprise Site List to force IE compatibility?

It is possible, but not the easiest to setup.

I don’t have any direct guides, but I will post some pointers shortly.

Alternatively, post your exact question in copilot to be given a walk-through.

I’m sure you know this, but Silverlight is long since been a bad idea. You might want to consider how quickly moving off this platform will be, can you at least move the basics, sooner?

sadly its not possible at this time. we have a significant technical debt that i am working on, i was only hired in january of this year. we will need to work updating the WMS when we consolidate ERP systems. which wont be looked into for at least a year if not 2 or 3. if i could get off Silverlight i would

Be aware then, that IE is the only supported browser and IE mode is not the same as IE direct, windows 11 may not perform well, even in IE mode for Silverlight based systems.

It also has dependencies on .NET which may also cause issues since Silverlight isn’t supported by modern applications or browsers.

i was looking into that but i specifically set this pc up off the domain due to the need to setup an account to access the web server hosting the wms. i know its not secure but i made a standard local account on the web server to allow this.

As said here already, you can check GPO’s to see what’s blocking IE mode in the domain and adjust as needed (suggest taking your computer out of the current OU and putting it in a ‘test’ OU that the GPO does not effect) but you’re still likely to be SOL when it comes to that, as native IE is not the same as IE compat mode.

However, you MIGHT get lucky with an instance of Server 2016, as it still had IE on it. You will want to install SilverLight on it, do the thing, then remove it ASAP, or isolate the server from the main network if possible.

i know all this. i am running this kiosk on a Win10 machine. I have been pushing an upgrade asap. but i am not able to do much more than that. like is said, there is a lot of stuff that needs to be upgraded/replaced. we are slowly updating the infrastructure as well.

i would if almost all our pcs that access the wms server didn’t use Silverlight. I have stressed to people how bad it is to use silverlight in our network.

You might be able to create a VM on the Win10 desktop (open the start menu and start typing Virtual, should be Hyper-V or something) and create a Win7 inside your Win10 box but at this point, we’re grasping at straws and you might be better served putting this time and effort into getting off the platform that much faster…easier said than done, I know, but when you’ve run out of possibilities you have to take the only road open.

Great, but I don’t know what you do and don’t know.

And that’s a great start, but if you do clients before backend, this is only going to get harder.

My take as a short-longer term band-aid would be an RDS box, publish the browser for the intranet site, only.

It doesn’t look like I can add any value here, so good luck.

ok thanks. i was basically looking for a way to configure the assigned access/kiosk mode thats built in. i assume i am needing to make a custom “kiosk mode” myself then?
