Earlier this month, I posted about edge computing having a bright future even if nobody’s really quite sure about what that looks like.
As Scale’s Jeff Ready says, Edge Computing brings “computation and data storage closer to the location where it’s needed as a way to improve response times and mitigate bandwidth constraints. A new generation of Edge Computing platforms can literally be held in the palm of your hand, can be placed practically anywhere since they have no special cooling or power requirements, and can be easily scaled by simply connecting them into clusters to quickly bring more compute and storage resources online as needed.”
Sounds super exciting, right?! But… still not sure what that looks like in real life?
Well, I wanted to make sure you have some real world examples readily available in case you need them. Recently, we compiled three edge use cases (in the real world) in the manufacturing industry, retail industry, and even the shipping industry out at sea! Each showcases how they are applying Edge Computing to not only improve their IT operations, but also how Edge is boosting innovation in these spaces.

What are your current thoughts on Edge Computing innovations happening in today’s time? Do real world examples help with understanding concepts like Edge Computing?
