From your computer (with Administrative permission), open the “Run” console. From within the run console enter the following without quotations “sc \computername start “RemoteRegistry”” (there needs to be quotation around remoteregistry), then click ok. Then you should be able to open “regedit.exe” and connect to network registry of that computer. The script again is:

sc \computername start “RemoteRegistry”

You can also use the IP address instead of the computer name if you like.

Good tip! In the past, I have connected to the target computer via the “Computer Management” console and then started the Remote Registry service from there. This is quicker.

One problem I can see “Even if your browser is not listed, we are likely to support it! Note that a small component has to be run/installed on the remote machine only (Windows XP or later versions supported).” This is from their website, if I have to install more on their computer just to remote in then I can go with free versions of remote access like “tightvnc”. Yes it only has to be installed once but the script needs to be done once also.

by default only members of the Administrators Group and Backup Operators Group have access to the registry over the network
