Dear Community
Since last week I have been trying to fix this as it is causing massive headache and unnecessary issues. Now at least I know what is causing it.
Please see the article http://support.eset.com/alert6477/
I was just wondering how do other AV solution deal with this issue? ESET says they are trying to provide a fix at some point today, whether it will work we shall see.
Thanks in advance.

I haven’t ran into this issue yet but I haven’t tried do a new install this month either. When I install ESET is has been automatically turning off Windows Defender. Since Kaspersky Lab have filed an complaint against Microsoft I am not surprised this happening.

Hello,
Not just a Kaspersky or an ESET issue, even McAfee has been affected . Unfortunately, Microsoft seems to have rolled out a change to Windows Defender that breaks third-party anti-malware programs. From looking at VirusTotal , there are over sixty anti-malware programs out there–and likely more–all of which probably have multiple versions which are compatible with Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 (not to mention server versions). If Microsoft rolls out changes to their anti-malware program without first testing against those different programs and their different versions, problems like this may continue to occur.

Thanks for that. After some searching I found the same about Kaspersky. It will be interesting to see how it ends the whole story.

Hi Aryeh
It makes sense and it is now at least clear, why this is happening. It is just very unusual Microsoft has created this situation - by mistake or on purpose? Who knows. We shall see what happens.

I guess, the title should be then “Windows Defender does not like ESET (any 3rd party AV solution) anymore”.

Hello,
I’m sure it is not intentional on Microsoft’s part, but unfortunately it lends credence to Kaspersky Lab’s claims about business impairment.
Microsoft really needs to work better with third-party anti-malware vendors like it used to, when changes like this were communicated in advance and interoperability testing was performed to make sure things like this would not happen before their products were released.
