Hi Guys ,
I have no Idea which way to go regarding these two products. We currently have Trend Micro and will be moving to ESET or Isheriff .
ESET anti-virus we had when I started here about 4 years back - I had no Issues with it , was great and not resource intensive - Since then allot more cloud based and central managed anti- virus or actually anti -security came out . Eset endpoint Security is at a good price - Still Waiting for a price on Isheriff
Isheriff is kind of new as it recently bought out a few companies too mesh 3 engines together with a cloud base solution (Bit defender, Total Defense , AVG ) or something like that . The presentation was really great and I’m very intrigued to go this route as cloud is the best way forward I believe , but Eset is still a good product and has allot of good reviews .
We have 56 computer/laptops and 4 Microsoft servers running on Hyper V.
Any comments or experience relating these two anti-virus packages in a windows environment would be appreciated .

Never heard of Isheriff before but we currently use ESET and are quite happy with it, I would always tend to err on the side of caution though and stick with a company I know (or at least have heard of before!), rather than jump on something new even if it seems shinier.

I’ve heard of a lot of AV brands, I’ve never heard of iSheriff, it doesn’t even list a single search result on Virus Bulletin which is a big alarm bell for me. Even with those mentioned names of companies that they are made up of, I wouldn’t even consider them.
I’ve certainly lost count of the number of sales pitches I had over the year of new products or revamped products which are “bigger and better”, it got tiresome.
ESET is still as good as it was a few years ago, yes they are version whatever now, but the core engine has remained lean and effective.
I’ve deployed ESET across small and large companies enough times, it’s extremely easy to deploy, highly customisable, a good price and on the rare occasion that I’ve had to call tech support there is one number that gets straight through to someone, in my case in Bournemouth UK.

Thanks for some of your insights .
Can you tell me if ESET have a mail security option and if I could use the webfilter on a per person switch?
Like Trend we could only change the web filters either on all servers or all domain computers.
What I do like about Isheriff is the following :
Integrated with Active Directory (Can setup web filters per Group)
Deployments made easy through Active Directory.
Mail security - As we are getting allot of spam mail lately.
And the Idea that all Malware /Spam being caught before reaching our Network.
Also have some of untangles technology involved - meaning I could probably switch off (Replaced) our untangle server.
Application control
Web filter in Detail
Nice Reports
Allot of you have not heard of Isheriff - Perhaps it is only South africa Based (Like a branch of Total defense)
Looks like it is actually from Total defense - See link http://www.totaldefense.com/company/articles/Total-Defense-Announces-Merger-of-Consumer-Business-and-Launches-Stand-alone-Corporate-Cloud-Business.html

Yes, mail filter is included.
You can setup groups, customise each group policy then add specific clients to specific groups, or do it by active directory group membership.

I have ESET.
We moved from Symantec - which is a lot heavier in my opinion. We had been with Trend Micro previous to that.
I installed ESET about 6 months ago; glad I did. I also got a 3 year subscription for the price of two which helped.
We only have about 25 clients though.

Thanks Guys ,
So when I looked at VB100 on the MAP ESET is not far behind against Total Defense Business. Eset never failed a test , but Total Defense did on one of their earlier versions.
I will be going Eset Endpoint Security for the next year as they are 2 x less expensive than Total Defense and Still in my Budget .
But Next year I will put Total Defense (Isheriff) in my budget as an extra benefit as the MAil security , Web filters and Reporting looks very good . (Meaning I won’t have to manage my Untangle Server anymore :))
Thanks again for you feedback guys.

Another for you to think about in the future (since you’re open to trying newer AV products) is Cylance . I know you have made a decision for this year, but once the next year starts, feel free to reach out with any questions!
I do feel for the new AV products, it’s not an easy market to get into, especially with products such as ESET doing such a good job. I used to recommend and resell as an ESET partner for my old role in a SME MSP, but I have nothing to do with that anymore, I still happily recommend it though.
Yes they have a mail security app, it’s exchange aware and does a good job with the default install options, I find the antispam functionality works best using spam references such as spamhaus, even then all it is doing is tagging the e-mail, you still have to tell Exchange what to do with that e-mail based on that spam rating. Exchange is just poor at working out what is spam for itself. What ESET certainly does well is rip out the infections in the e-mail and tell the user it’s been removed from the e-mail if you so wish.
Deployment, super easy, either through Group Policy, push install, or a customised exe file that you get your user to run for a silent install.
I’d make this suggestion, take advantage of the 30 day trial that ESET offer, see if it does everything you need or not. When it comes down to it you know what you want out of the product better than anyone else.
Hi Guys,
Just an Update , So eventually Isheriff gave me a better pricing solution that compares to ESET’s Pricing.
Not Cheaper though ,but allot closer.
I do like ESET , don’t get me wrong ,but I decided to try this new product as it looks very promising and the web, application and bandwidth control is all something we need especially in one place . Would’ve been nice if it could integrate with Spiceworks though .
We will be installing this week and hopefully I made the right choice - We will see in a year
Cheers.
Here is the most important point for me, ESET has never failed, according to independent testing, to pick up on a “in the wild virus”, that can’t be said for a lot of it’s major counterparts. I sincerely wish you luck with this one but I really wouldn’t feel comfortable effectively being a test bed for an unknown product, regardless if they had paid me to run it. Do let us know how you get on.

Hi Sean ,
Actually Great - No problems.
We only took the anti-virus option this year that is basically bitdefender with Isheriff’s console .
Next year we will add the webfilter - the reason why I actually wanted to move to Isheriff.
Regards
Hello Sean,
How is it going with isheriff? Do you have any mac clients on it as well or just Windows?
Serge
I work for an enterprise using iSheriff, and we won’t be renewing. iSheriff consistently comes up with false positives (it has detected many Windows system files as malicious and even its own system files at one point), and their support is slow to respond to confirm whether or not detected files are actually malicious.
We don’t have any Mac clients, not sure how it works with them.
Thank you for your feedback James, really appreciate it.
I am in the market to look at iSheriff.
Sheldon, if you are still picking this thread up, can you let me know how you are getting on with iSheriff as on paper it seems to be the only solution that combines AV on the endpoints with Email and Web filtering.
Thanks.
Hello,
I cannot speak for iSherrif, however, with regards to ESET, the light system usage is still a very redeeming factor in the infrastructure, and I personally host my ERA Servers in the Amazon AWS cloud with little issues. It allows me to manage them from anywhere, and also has the good availability of Amazons Cloud Infrastructure. Also, with regards to detection, we have very limited false positive issues.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Michael
