I have Vsphere Standard licensing. I use a Vsphere VM Appliance. Every so often when I go into Vcenter I see an alarm saying Host Connection and power for server1. My Vcenter appliance is running on Server1 how can’t it see itself when I can log into Vcenter. All the other VM’s on server 1 seem fine.

I usually just disconnect and then reconnect and it comes back. Being new to VMware I’m assuming I have something set up wrong. Server one is a low end Dell T320 but only has 3 vm’s on it. I could Vmotion or reinstall the appliance on one of my M620’s if that will help. Just seems odd.

Network is pretty basic no VLan’s all the servers are plugged into the same switch.

vCenter being located on a specific host doesn’t mean anything; vCenter could be located on a host that’s not part of the cluster at all. Being on a host doesn’t imply extra management connections or anything.

I’ve seen servers randomly disconnect at times. Usually what fixed it for me was removing the server from vCenter, then logging on directly to the host and telling it to disconnect from vCenter as well. From there, go back to vCenter and re-add the host.

Sometimes restarting the management network can fix this issue.

Can you ping the host concerned?
