I cannot keep my eyes open today, I’ve never fallen asleep at my desk, but today looks promising. My issue is I don’t drink coffee, or tea, rarely soda (I caved in a got a can of Coke, but it isn’t helping) what can I do to keep myself awake?

Take an early lunch and run out to your car and take a power nap.

I agree with Sosipater - I have a good friend who does this every day (takes a nap over his lunch hour) He sets an alarm on his phone, goes into the server room and sacks out for ~30-45 minutes. He says it makes a huge difference in his productivity

Physical activity can also help, go for a quick jog or find something to do that requires you to be in motion for a little while.

Take an early lunch and go for at least a 1 mile jog. Light exercise is a great way to wake up.

Get up and walk around, water, coffee, red bull, shot of adrenaline, eat anything sugary(your brain likes glucose), near death experience. I’m sure there’s something on the list that you can settle for.
mmmmmm… nap sounds good. I’m so hungry too though. Maybe I’ll grab something to eat, inhale it, sleep for 15-20 minutes and then go back to work ( weoly get a 30 min lunch). Or I’ll jog while eating lunch, like a crazy person in 80 degree heat.

Start drinking coffee.
…and you call yourself IT. Pffft!

The nap option sounds better than the jog option but that’s just me…
That’s how I keep this figure in top shape though…

Also make sure you’re doing things that keeps your brain working - tedious work is the first thing that will put you to sleep. Also, if you have any, green tea or a 5 hour energy might help.
Cat nap could help or it could make it worse… just depends on how tired you really are.

lol, I used to drink coffee, but I got sick a few years ago (multilpe stomach ulcers- not from the coffee) and it would hurt so bad if I tried to drink it that I just stopped. Haven’t drank it since.
I’ve found I’m more tired after a very short amount of sleep, so I avoid it personally.

I’ve heard relatively good things about 5-Hour Energy (says the guy who can’t even handle a caffeinated orange soda) didn’t see Sean’s post and your subsequent answer, sorry . But I will also second taking a nap over jogging. While exercise may wake you up for the short term, you’ll end up being even more tired later…which I suppose is true of energy drinks as well.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

That is my issue, I don’t do caffeine. It makes me jittery these days.
Hmmm, not sure how big your office is but if you feel it starting to hit you, find an excuse to walk around for a few minutes just to get the blood circulating.
If it still is pretty bad, you might just want to do a halfday. That might suck but if you’re so tired that getting through the day isn’t very feasible… doing a halfday won’t make your production that much less and you’ll be well rested for tomorrow.

You drink soda but not coffee!? I don’t know how you do it.
Water will actually get you feeling better, but as of things around the office (Not sure how big of an area you work in) bananas, nuts, yogurt, eggs, and oranges will help.
If I nap, I find that it just makes me want to never get up.
Just remember, an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force of coffee.

I agree.
Whenever I’m dragging I get up and move about the office. Visit a client’s desk instead of remoting into their machine, clean up some inventory, or just do a lap around the building.

I drank a 5 hour energy drink once - within 5 minutes I was asleep. Must have been a dud.
Just to help you out Ashley - listen along
Rock a bye baby, in the tree top, when the wind blows, the cradle will rock, when the bow breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come Ashley, cradle and all…
haha! have a great day!

I’m in the exact same boat.
Maybe if we sink the boat, that will wake us up.
On a side note, I find the temperature of the room really has an effect on me. If its cold, I want to pass out in my jacket. If its hot, Ill stay awake (uncomfortably, but awake).
If I find myself dozing, Ill hurry up and make a quick list of things that need to be done, usually with some big ticket items just to validate the list, and then start doing the small ones. By then its lunch, and of course after lunch, the days pretty much over for everyone
+1 for not drinking tea/coffee/or soda. Take a “smoke” break and run to the nearest coffeeshop. Have some eggs or a fruit smoothie!
