So I picked up this 2012, Chinese-made Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus. I am totally impressed with the build quality on this guitar. Sounds good. Plays amazingly well. Anyone have any experience with one of these?

My budget doesn’t stretch to big brands sadly.

Really like the tobacco burst on that though - will have to attempt that on a future build I think.

I bought this in a pawn shop. $325 US. Very much plays, sounds, and looks way better than the price paid would indicate. I’ve only played one other Tele that I liked this much, and that was an original 1972 Tele Custom that belonged to a friend of mine.

I worked at a music store straight out of college. We were a rival dealer to the Fender dealer in town (we sold Gibson). I did not have a lot of experience with Fender.

We somehow sniped the Fender franchise from them and frankly I wanted to hate them. I could not. Even the inexpensive Fenders were like “whoa dang man, that’s a nice guitar”. Given the choice today, I’d take a USA Fender over a USA Gibson almost any day of the week. There are very, very few exceptions to that and nothing in production today at Gibson counts.

This looks like a great axe man. I love the finish and the subtle chattoyance on the fingerboard. That’ll take on some nice character over time. The only thing it lacks is a B5 Bigsby ;0).

I’ll give you $340 for it right now. Seriously that is a killer deal man. Since 2020 you do not find deals like that anywhere.

It does have a couple of sharp fret ends. But that’s an easy fix. I definitely think it’s a keeper. Much to my wife’s dismay… they are all keepers, though. LOL
