Hi All,

I am trying to figure out a way to migrate my file server to ODFB, meanwhile i want to retain my File server and have a bidirectional sync of some shared folders to ODBC. Any suggestions?

Thank you

OneDrive for Business isn’t intended to replace a file server completely in most instances.

We are currently moving away from redirecting Users Desktops, Documents, Favorites, etc. to the File Server and instead redirecting to OneDrive for Business.

For Departmental directories that don’t have complex permissions, we are setting up Team Sites in SharePoint and then setting OneDrive For Business to sync the corresponding Documents folder. This works for most departmental folders, but for Accounting/Finance that has complex permissions it isn’t a pragmatic solution.

What is your file server currently being used for? User folders, Departmental folders, etc.

User folders and Departmental folders… what other solution would be feasible, any suggestions, idea is to have file server access everywhere without any VPN and kinda web access.

SharePoint Team Sites and OneDrive for Business might work if the permissions aren’t too complex.

Beyond that you would be looking at a 3rd party solution like Egnyte, Dropbox,

I am actually using a QNAP to do this job

But there is some 3rd party tools that do the same as the Hybrid Backup Sync from QNAP

Maybe do it share by share - I wouldn’t try the Sync route, it’ll be more hassle than it’s worth ( i have 2 PCs syncing 60-70 odd shares and they need a lot of tending)

You can use Kernel Migrator for SharePoint software to migrate the file server to One Drive for Business flawlessly. Go through File Server to OneDrive Tool to Migrate Server Data to OneDrive for Business File Server to OneDrive Tool to Migrate Server Data to OneDrive for Business to know the salient features and download the demo application which can migrate 5 files per folder. Give it a try.
