I know there are a lot of geek songs out there. What I want to know is some of people’s favorites. Bonus points for lesser known stuff.

Just recently I heard about a local duo called Debs and Errol to which I went and saw them perform. Here are a couple of good songs of theirs… (commence plugging)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSP51BBYnzk - Tie after Tie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kJFs-RykWE - Have you seen my keys tonight

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN902f_O3W0 - AT-ATs in the snow

And they have more in non-video on iTunes that are well worth it!

Anyone else have any good geek songs they want to plug?

EDIT: From their CD, my favorite is Double Rainbow…but they are all good XD

I’d guess that “Microsoft Word”, by Paul Anderson (to the tune of “Wild World”, by Cat Stevens), might be considered “lesser known stuff”, though apparently it got some airplay on the Dr. Demento Show back in the day. I’d still like to find a digital copy of that at some point. He had other geeky songs, though not all of them IT related.

sipMD - Yes, stuff like that is good! Now I need to find it myself XD

Markm101 - Ah yes, while more known, awesome none-the-less

Gary342 - Weird Al always has some good ones just for the parody fact alone

pdestefanis - Hmm, I’d say geek would be either dealing with stuff associated with geek culture. Using the duo I mentioned, they can be the following:

Anime (I wish Totoro was my neighbor), Sci-Fi (Tie after Tie, AT-ATs in the snow, BSG), Gaming (Gaming with you), Internet Memes (Double Rainbow) and as a generic geek song Geek Love Song (A song that says “I love you” in other languages…including binary and Klingon)

Or, in the case of Weird Al, parody songs (though he combines geek into it like All About The Pentiums)

You beat me to the Rush, Brendan—I was going to suggest either “Virtuality”, or “Countdown”—both are terribly geeky, but great Rush songs! (I even have a Space Shuttle shaped 45 rpm record of Countdown!)

Spencer Reeve. He was a local rapper in ga. Is living is Korea now. I think online he went by Cash Money Spencer (before the lawsuit), now just by Spencer Reeve. He has an awesome song about Ender’s Game, too.

Also, if you can deal with Mc Chris’ voice, he does a lot of geeky songs.

MC Lars has several. Most notably, O.G. (Original Gamer), Guitar Hero Hero and 21 Concepts.

Also Parry Gripp has a song called Girl at the Video Game Store. It’s pretty decent.

And this is for a very specific niche of nerd-dom but the OC Remix site is dedicated to various remixes of video game music which is about as geeky as it gets. Some of them are really quite good though.

In my mind not much beats Optimus Rhyme. Obey the Moderator is a classic. Think of Nic every time I hear it…:->

Coldplay - Speed of Sound?

The Device Has Been Modified (V2)

I’m not entirely certain who it is by, but it can be found on Youtube. The best Portal-inspired song I’ve heard to date.
