Is there a way to use Google Apps to allow someone without a gmail account to send you a file?

I know how to upload a file to Drive and then send a link to someone so that they can download the file. But suppose they want to send a file to me, one that is too big for email? It’s easy if they have a Google account, but suppose they don’t and don’t want to sign up for one?

I tried creating a folder and giving edit rights to anyone with the link, but that doesn’t seem to work for uploading new files. I poked around the Apps marketplace, but I don’t want to buy anything extra.

Right now I’m using a program call Synaman on a local server. It has a nice function where you can create an upload link and email it to someone, and they can use it to upload files without using any kind of login. There’s nothing wrong with it - I just thought if I could accomplish the same thing with Apps I could retire one server.

I don’t think you can, Google apps uses OAuth 2.0 which requires a Google account to authenticate with.

Haven’t tried, but looks promising… http://www.entouragebox.com/

Yes, you can.

Create a folder. Go into the sharing settings and change the visibility settings.

Set it to “Anybody with the Link”

towards the bottom of the screen, change the Access:Anyone (no sign-in required) setting from “Can View” to “Can Edit”.

Email the link to the person. The can now access any data in the folder without sign-in.

Allen,

I’ve tried that and while it does allow someone to download or edit a file that’s already there, I don’t see that it allows someone to add a file.

I think at this time non google account users can only view/edit, not add content to your shared folder in Drive. A feature that may be coming in the near future perhaps

For the mean time you can use Dropbox, Wuala, Copy, Mega, or some other file sharing service. These all have free versions with decent amount of storage.

Thanks for your comments. I guess I can’t do it directly, which is what I thought. I was hoping someone knew of some procedure I had missed.

I hadn’t heard of entouragebox, but it does look like it might be an option, although I might have to pay to handle the size of files I’m trying to work with.

Since I have Synaman up and running, I’ll just leave it going for now.

Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, etc. are going to require an account to upload files. Signing up for one of these free services would only take a few seconds.
