As you may have guessed from the subject of this post, today is not only @spicerex ’s birthday, it is his 10th birthday and he’s now in double digits! I’m unsure how that translates to dinosaur years (much like how a ‘human year’ is different from a ‘dog year’) but before we jump into the birthday wishes, there are a few things I want to talk about.
Many of you have seen the big orange Tyrannosaurus rex and some of you know who he is… but there are many who do not. To give you a little history, he was actually introduced to the Spiceworks Community 10 years ago (to the day) by our original Pure Capsaicin, @akp982 as a part of a contest where we were asking SpiceHeads to show us their spiciness . We came to learn that akp982 discovered SpiceRex as a baby near Marlow, England (90 minutes west of London) and affectionately dubbed him “SpiceRex.” And from there, SpiceRex’s fame quickly grew.
Why is he important? SpiceRex is not just the Community mascot, he is a symbol for IT professionals everywhere and his roar is a rallying cry! In the immortal words of Vegeta, his power level, “it’s over 9,000!” Much, much more. SpiceRex’s power level is easily in the millions as is our Community! And when he’s not saving the world from zombies , on assignment in London , or blasting off into space , he’s working tirelessly (and fiercely) for all of you. And, as we all know, having the support of millions of IT pros is not something easily overlooked or ignored.
