I work downtown and we have about 200 hard drives we need destroyed. We got a quote from R4 and they want $8.50 per drive. Was wondering if you all have any recommendations for places?

Also to specify, I don’t want to keep them, looking for physical destruction with confirmation certificates. I know how to Google local places, I’m looking for any personal experience and/or pricing if possible.

Do you want them physically destroyed or do you want to use them after the data on the drives is removed?

DBAN for data deletion;

Thanks for the reply!

Physically, we have no use for them, buncha old 80GB and 150GB HDD.

Also, to future responders, please don’t talk me into keeping and reusing them, not looking for suggestions. I know a lot of you like to keep old junk around!

Use a bulk media eraser first. This sets a level of confidence for you. For the paranoid, Drill a hole(s) in them, then only the NSA will be able to begin to think to get data off them.

Then process them to another source.

Old job used Com2 with great results. Website: https://www.com2recycling.com/
I was sad to have missed the site visit to see the giant HD chomper featured in a video on their site.
Unfortunately, I cannot directly offer price input, as we had a relationship with them, due to being a non-profit and other considerations. As they are a general electronics recycler, with destruction as part of their process, I believe they typically do a cost to pick up then an additional charge by weight.
Hope that helps.
