hey i need to recover information from a laptop harddrive. I plugged it in via usb and was able to have access to the boot partition which was 3gb. but i have not been able to access any of the users files for recovery. Where do i access that partition?

4 Spice ups

go to device manager and disk management.

you should see the usb attached disk. if you see the partitions on the disk as offline or require initialization do it.

SOmething might have blown away the partitions. Any partitions there should just show up. Is the drive maybe over 2TB and done in GPT?

it is under 200gb, and i have tried initializing it, but i get the incorrect function error whether i use the GPT or MBR as the partition style. and those are my only two options for partition styles.

Try a tool like Recuva.

I think that the files system structure on that drive might have already been corrupted.

it was completely corrupt. always a bummer to tell a customer that.

You might have to use Partition Wizard’s MiniTool or Partition Find and Mount or even Testdisk to try to scan the drive for possible recoverable partitions.

Beside the above suggestions, you may also consider on Kernel for Windows data recovery utility ( Windows Data Recovery Software to Recover Data from Windows 11/10/8/7 ) that would be an appropriate solution to fix such weird issue in your circumstance.
