So I usually have stayed at the Residence Inn down by the Convention center in previous Spiceworlds, it’s close to the convention center and they have pretty nice suites.

So last year of course, it’s at the AT&T center, so I stayed closer, around the corner. But… just out of curiosity, and it’s only about a 30 min. walk away, i looked up rates for the Residence Inn by the convention center to see how they compared, probably wouldn’t book it, it is nice to stay at the same hotel the convention’s at, and yes I already reserved a room there. But like i said, out of curiosity…

$800-$900 per night per room for that week Nov 10-14???

What am I missing? Is there a special event that week, am I just looking too early and those rates will go back to normal? I mean it’s usually $200 - $300 per night for that suite.

Any thoughts?

There’s a spiceworks registration link for that hotel but it was still high as I recall. There are other places nearby in the low $200 range.

Check out the Hampton Inn & Suites @ The University/Capitol. It was about $200/night last convention.

@GeekyLibrarian beat me to it, but I stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites @ The University/Capital last year and it was just under $200/night; only a couple blocks so not even a 10 min walk. Looking at the same now and it’s a little bit more, but still less than the AT&T SW rate.

Apparantly most of the hotels downtown by the convention center are either sold out or have really high rates, something going on at the convention center that week, wonder what?

Yup, already booked at ATT center, so I"m good, just curious

I remembered thinking the same thing when I booked ATT center last year! All the hotel rates seemed high compared to previous years. I was also a bit surprised there weren’t more options on/around UT campus. I did notice a ton of students wandering around in caps and gowns during SW 2024, so I wonder if there are some kind of commencement activities? Seems a strange time of year for that, but I couldn’t help but notice them.

Haven’t been there in a few years. Do they still do shuttles?

They haven’t done shuttles in a few years.

I can’t talk about hotel prices. You could say I cheat since my brother lives in Austin and I stay with him. Then Uber to the convention center or hitch a ride with my brother.

Does he have room for more? lol

Yeah, I was surprised at the AT&T prices. I stayed at the Hyatt Place Austin Downtown for 2024 and used Uber. I ended up paying around 200 for Uber though. I am staying at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center this year, but dang it is pricey!

I’ve already booked at the AT&T Center, because it’s nice to stay at the place it’s being held. The rates seem to have increased everywhere this year. It could be because there is only one hotel they have specials for this year.
