I believe you only get referral points when someone clicks through on a banner on your website and signs up.

I could be hallucinating but I thought I remember seeing an orange name respond that way a few days ago to the same question. Of course I cannot find it now.

It would be nice if an orange name could answer this for sure or at least point us to that discussion I cannot find.

I’ve always wondered that as well as I have brought a few people to the community and have never gotten points. There is no clear description that I have found anywhere as to have to qualify for that.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Yep you get the points when someone registers for Spiceworks. In the next month’s community release we’re adding another chart to your points page that shows the number of clicks and sign ups from your link (that should help). We’ll also work on making the description clear.

Does the user who register have to click through on one of our badges? Otherwise how does the system know that we referred them?

Must be because Katie M. and others have signed up “through me” but there is no way for anyone to know that so I didn’t get any points.

Do you really need the points? I think I might have my money on you reaching top level first!

Yep. You’ll notice that the code for all the badges has a url of the form community.spiceworks.com/refer/ which maps the person who register back to your badge.

Please help this Spiceworks newbie…aka. pimento. Where do I get a badge for my facebook/myspace etc? I am loving the tool and want to spread the word. I’ll start my digging but a direct point to where and how would help.

Got to My community, My Profile, and on the right, you will see Get Site Baghes. There are some different icons and the HTML code for them there.

You can also go to the link at the bottom for more.

If you go to your profile page: http://community.spiceworks.com/profile/show/myprofile

You’ll see a link in the actions section (top right) that says “Get Site Badge”. You can use that link to get site badges.
