I just finished a presentation to management about Spiceworks and how it could be something us as a company can use…specifically the Inventory and Helpdesk. The topic of “How secure is Spiceworks” can up. Before we move ANY closer to deploying Spiceworks, we need to find out what info gets passed along from my company to Spiceworks (or anywhere else)

What info exactly does Spiceworks track or collect from my companies network?

Are we advertising ourselves out on the web for potental bad-doers to exploit?

Is it safe to document passwords within the devices or software sections?

See spiceworks privacy policy, it is safe for network.

No private information is sent to spiceworks. in fact your user name isnt even added to the community until you’ve told it to do so. the advertisements you see through out spiceworks is how they make their money. however, if they bother you there is a link Free IT Software - Spiceworks Pricing that will allow you to purchase spiceworks for a subscription fee. This will replace all advertisements and spiceworks logos with your choosing.

passwords and user information is kept on your server. In the event your spiceworks server crashes, the support staff may ask for your spiceworks logs. i do not know if any private information is in them.

my reply would have been over 1.7 million users cant be wrong ! But yes see the privacy page listed above.

Thanks guys, that should cover what I need.
