There are quite a few email servers that run on quite a few operating systems. I suppose the basics are the same, but it really a very broad question.

Tnx Rockn,

what if I’m using a windows server??..

I see there is an SMTP features there,

but that’s all, how can I config it to host my own email server?

and what are the things I need to do, maybe registration or something??

tnx a lot…

Sori I’m just a newbie…

If your running Windows then you’re going to want to research exchange. However, I’d recommend looking into something like Zimbra, or just googling how to setup a linux mail server, both of these options would be free, exchange is not free and is not cheap.

Free on Windows: hMailServer

Low-cost on Windows: Mercury Mail Transport System , also known as Mercury/32. If you’re a non-profit, Mercury/32 is either free or very-low-cost, can’t remember which.

If you only have a few mailboxes, Rackspace Hosted Email costs all of $1/mailbox/month when you ask for the SpiceWorks discount. Unless your mail administrator’s time is dirt-cheap, it’s probably one of the most cost-effective solutions for small businesses who use SpiceWorks. I have several clients using Rackspace.

For windows - also look at MailEnable - free and paid for mail servers

tnx guys for the suggestions… cool answers!!..

and, now I have to configure the email server…
