We are about to expand our system with some iSCSI connected storage. We were looking at the HP P2000 G3 iSCSI with 10.8Tb of storage, but a VAR suggested we take a look at the StoreEasy 1840 before making our final decision. We are a mid-sized law firm with rapidly growing storage needs. The needs are diverse and range from file and db storage to VM usage. We’re still leaning toward the P2000 (mostly for buck-bang and ROI), but I thought I would reach out and see what others think. Thoughts?

We had the same problems. In the end we now have an EMC VNXe 3300 for file shares and slow storage (it’s way overkill for that). And an EMC VNX 5300 for our VMs and heavily used storage.

The 3300 was our main VM storage system for several years and did a great job. You can upgrade it to 10 GbE if needed as well.

Interesting. When you were first looking at the 3300 (back in the day) did you also consider an HP option?

Part of our focus on HP is that the majority of the rest of our hardware is HP (switches, servers, etc.) so service is one stop shopping. That said, I’ve also heard stories that folks have had inexplicable issues plugging an iSCSI device from one manufacturer through a switch of another into a server from a third and they ultimately concluded that it was the mixed systems environment that caused it. Maybe it’s my multicultural hippy love diversity upbringing but I struggle to believe that could be true. That said, with the other reason to stay with HP why test it?
