Working with a legacy HPE 501 Wireless Client Bridge (used to attach an Ethernet-only printer to a wireless network, in this case).

I am trying to factory-reset and then reconfigure the device. The instructions are pretty simple. I’ve reset it using the microswitch and the device responds to PING, with no doubt that I am pinging the device I think I am pinging.

However, when trying to launch the onboard management UI (https://192.168.1.1), I get no connection. I get an error message:

This site can’t be reached

The webpage at https://10.0.1.193/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT

I also cannot get in via PuTTy; SSH and Telnet connections are refused.

I was hoping the 9 pin “console” port might get me going, but I don’t see any documentation on how to try to access it via the console port. I also don’t trust my USB-serial adapter cable.

Is there anything I can do to try to revive this otherwise-bricked device?

One guess, is that if it is legacy bridge, try http and not https. Many of the earlier devices did not used secured communication channels by default.

Just a thought.

Thanks, turns out that I just needed to download Firefox 5 which has much older security “expectations” - now I am off to see about finding some newer firmware so this isn’t a problem going forward.
