Afternoon Spiceheads,

We are experiencing an issue with the drivers for our HP Printers (HPX576DW) in which Windows 10 prompts saying “Driver Update Needed”, we then proceed to print which prompts to install the new driver as per the screenshot below. and we get stuck in an endless loop of clicking install, waiting for it to install and then it prompts to install again.

Or the other issue we get is once installing the driver after the update prompt, we get the following error.

ErrorMsg2.png

The way around this is by uninstalling the printer manually and reinstalling from our print server. This only happens on Windows 10, and when an update is released we could have up to 50 machines needing the printer manually uninstalled and reinstalled.

Anyone seen this before or know of any possible reasons why this is happening?

Thanks,

What version of OS is your print server? Do you have the latest windows 10 driver installed on the print server? What events are showing on both the computer and the print server?

Does the driver show as packaged in Print Management? You need to use a packaged driver.

The print server is running Windows Server 2016 Datacenter (All up to date, with latest print drivers installed for HPX576DW)

Going to check the event logs on the local device once the user is back

Also make sure you have your point and print restrictions set up correctly.

Honestly your best option in this situation is to be using the HP UPD 6.6 driver set not the discrete driver. There should be no issues with UPD and Server 2016 and the X576 is fully supported by this driver set. The number of users accessing this small group level print concerns me in terms of longevity though. Also ensure that the firmware is up to date on this machine. Do no rely on the auto update function as our experience is that HP printers rarely get the latest firmware updates this way.

Hi Big Green Man

The driver didn’t show as packaged in the Print Management, so we have now used a packaged driver and will give this go and see what happens

Thanks for the advice
