Hi,

I have actually tried the fixes from similar issues in the past in this website but apparently none of them worked.

The case is that I could ping the PC (both ip and computer name) but CANNOT access the shared folder from that PC.

Do note that this just happened, we already had a shortcut of the said shared folder from the desktop but it suddenly didnt work for some reason.

Are there any other things that we could try and check?

Thanks so much for the help!

What error are you getting specifically? I’m going to assume you verified the share/NTFS permissions are correct.

is this a domain or workgroup environment? Are you getting error messages, and if so, what are they? Is the share accessible from elsewhere? Are there any firewalls involved anywhere?

We’ve run into this exact issue before and the fix was to ensure that SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is enabled on the computer hosting the share.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! There are major issues with SMB 1.0 that won’t ever get fixed. Wormable RCE that has been (and almost certainly still is) exploited by multiple ransomware gangs.

The information from your question is so uncomplete. Please answer this question:

  1. What is the OS of client and File Server?

  2. What error do you get?

  3. How do you try to connect to the shared folder? By name or IP address?

  4. What stuffs did you try to fix the issue?

Very valid point. I should have included a disclaimer that due to the security risk, we only do this on one specific machine that interfaces with a piece of hardware that management refuses to upgrade or abandon.

Sorry, didn’t get if this single specific machine also supports SMB 2 or 3. Didn’t get neither if you’ve put this single specific machine on a separate subnet and isolated via firewall so that only verified and authorized devices and services may access it and no ransomware may abuse it for discovering more of your corporate network.
