I received an email from olenkacanulwli@yahoo.com. The subject is:
A buddy you maybe would not have anticipated from me…
And the body is:
I will constantly think of the times we had the instant I listen to this tune…
Under the spotlight, the neon kiss
Carnival barkers preen & twist
Three for a quarter, 2 for a dime
Broken hearts general…

Attached is another (super creepy) spam email I received not too long ago.
There have been others just like these two where it’s only text. Nothing else (that I or the Barracuda can see). Where’s the phishing? Where are the misleading links? Where’s the Nigerian prince?
What does this email want from me??

Is that what they expect? For you to reply?
If that was the case I figure they’d be more sneaky… like why is Laura using Olenka’s mailbox?

That’s a good question. Ask her! Inquiring minds want to know!

Something got lost in translation or is Google translator not working.
Go home Babelfish, you’re drunk.

Maybe this is just entry level spam?

Quite possibly just to see if the mail arrives or bounces. Aka checking if mail address is valid before a flood of real spam is opened.
OT: expected more meat products in this thread.

Was this spam in HTML? If so, there are many exploits that could be embedded in the HTML or it might link to an ad tracker which generates revenue or it might use a Tracking Pixel or it might be doing all of them.

In the good old days they used to do this to “seed” Bayesian filters - could still be something like that.

I couldn’t understand the Korean spam we had on the community last week.

I had a vendor explain to me that the best rule to add to my filter was “if it contains an @ in the from address, block it.”
He was joking of course, but it would solve the spam problems.

Obviously, those ladies are hot for your bod. You should reply so you can make plans to meet up with them in a secluded area.

Sadly the previous Director of IT at my company had a rule in place for a mail scanner that we use for newsletters and basically the rule said - if it had an @ in it then add it to the block list. So for about 1 year the company couldn’t understand why we had such low newsletter recipients.

This is one of those test emails it seems to just see who it can reach and to whom it bounces. Too bad it didn’t have a recipe though

Forward it to Bob Servant, he’s made a few good books stringing the spammers along
I think the spammer wants to have your kittens.
