No, inventory will not lose all its functionality immediately on New Year. You may continue using it. But if you did not prepare for continued operation as recommended in the thread, you may lose sooner or later at least some functionality. And so far, I’ve not read any feedback in that thread that any Spicehead would have run such preparatory testing steps, even not those intending to continue using it.

I recommend our field guides, especially those on getting started (in the community) and on pos(t)ing good questions, including the helpful references found at the bottom of its web page. I believe the field guides were published since you joined a decade ago.

It will also be out of support, yes, but as Scheff explained, it won’t immediately stop working or anything.

I’m still using that legacy edition. It is not critical for me. And Spiceworks had already announced repeatedly that development has finished and that only very critical security flaws might risk a fix. No such very critical security flaws have been detected and hence no update has been pushed out, as promised repeatedly.
Nevertheless, Spiceworks had decided to push out providing two links into the top bar of the dashboard of that legacy edition. It didn’t need an update for achieving this. It is just some additional content being send out. That dashboard usually displays mainly content by default or according to the configuration of the organization of the Spicehead for this legacy edition. Not all such content works. The new pushout from Spiceworks works. Its first link provides (partial) information about the why as proposed by you and another link for establishing a migration plan to Cloud Help Desk (CHD). This is rolled out for almost two weeks if I remember it right. The only missing link is the one to the thread with the EOL announcement from Spring of this year. I can only speculate that this push out may have caused increased awareness on those still using the legacy edition as I assume that many admins with that legacy edition don’t visit our community regularly and may hence have missed the EOL announcement. At least, I see an increase in posts asking questions in context of EOL although having been answered repeatedly. They would only need to search in the subforum of the legacy edition or take a look into sticky notes of the support forum (which includes the EOL announcement). So the OP of this thread is no exception and falls into this trend. He started to use the legacy edition many years ago, the OP even before the field guides were introduced, seemed to have no community involvement and just satisfied with the legacy edition. That’s why he lacks the orientation where to find such infos like field guides, product roadmap, product blog, release notes or EOL announcement and what others have already written in the context of expected EOL. This is manifested by his spicy level.

There’s a lot of SW application users who don’t use the forums at all and have been coming here for the first time ever asking why there hasn’t been an update in so long.
