In honor of this past Star Wars Day, we’re assigning your worst IT pain points to the galaxy’s most infamous villains. Let’s see who’s really behind the chaos in your environment:

No automation. Repeating the same tasks over and over. Unlimited… frustration.

“Every alert feels like a personal attack.”
Too many pings. No priorities. Just chaos. And lots of dramatic walks.

:red_square: Darth Maul – The Patch Neglector
“A double-bladed disaster waiting to happen.”
Outdated software. Missed security updates. You know it’s coming… and it still hurts.

:skull: General Grievous – Too Many Endpoints, Too Little Time
“Why fix one system when you can suffer through all of them?”
Manually managing dozens (or hundreds) of machines? Prepare to suffer.

I’d pick Palpatine. A lot of what I do is manual. I’ve looked at AI/Automation but not for what I do.

Hmmm… Maybe it’s from when Maul was younger and had hair? (I don’t think the timeline works out though.)

I would also say Palpatine. I have plans to further automate and am in the process of working on that yet.

Palpatine for sure.

Automation for some things but not enough. Thing is, I don’t know where to even begin with it.

Trying to focus on my CCNA currently, then that is the next one.

And most users are Darth Jar Jar… Meesa have a broken mouse!

When I play LEGO StarWars II (for my GameCube) I usually create Darth Chewbacca with the custom character generator.

Have you ever heard of Darth Bane? He came up with the rule of 2, in which is also the bane of my existence. In IT there are two rules.

  1. We do everything by best practices and industry standards.
  2. We have an undocumented exception to why we didn’t do it number 1’s way.

I gotta go with Darth Maul. I started here 2 months ago and from day one I have been trying to get everything compliant, both Windows and PCI. My predecessor was so behind on everything from servers, desktops, ESXi hosts and so on.
