I have just received a batch of new Dell Pro Slim Plus QBS1250 computers with KIOXIA NVMe SSDs. I need to create and pull an image for the next round of replacements. (Yes, we have Win Ent. Volume License so it’s legal). The issue I’m having is the software I’ve used in the past and claim to be able to image NVMe SSD drives don’t see the drive when booting from their media. I’ve tried Acronis, Clonezilla, Rescuezilla, and Macrion Reflect (couldn’t get it to work on anything and absolutely zero responses from Macrion). I’m expecting 20 or more computers in teh next month or so and it’s critical I get them imaged and out as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Thanks for your wisdom and keep it spicy!

Sounds like the imaging tools you’re using are missing the proper NVMe or storage controller drivers, which is why they can’t detect the KIOXIA SSDs. One quick workaround is to check if the BIOS is set to RAID instead of AHCI and try switching it to AHCI temporarily since some tools struggle with RAID mode on newer systems. Also worth trying the latest version of Ventoy with a WinPE based image tool like EaseUS Todo Backup or AOMEI Backupper since they usually have better modern driver support. If you’re in a rush and need something reliable, MDT or even SmartDeploy could save time at scale especially with 20 or more systems coming in.

The BIOS is likely set to RAID, I don’t know why Dell does this, but if it is, you need to include the IRST drivers in the media you boot from.

You are correct Sir! They’re set to RAID out of teh box. Rescuezilla picked it up right away.

You are also correct, the BIOS is set to RAID. It doesn’t make sense to me why Dell would ship with RAID set.

They are set to RAID by default because they ship with Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
