At a clients this afternoon and saw that some of the folks in the shipping dept done some cable management. What’s interesting is that this was done about 6 months ago and everything is working fine.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Or fix it and make a few bucks. LOL!

At FastEthernet speeds, I can see it working. I have had a few run-ins with people overzealous with zip ties and patch cables. When the ERP runs slow on their machine because they cranked down on a coiled patch cable, I have had occasion to take side cutters and do away with them ALL (don’t want a trashed cable re-used).

I hate seeing telco components combined with our stuff, though!

I have to admit in some rare instances I’ve been known to do this too in the distant past (I’ve not done this in atleast a decade). Well, the bundling of cables. I never left the inner colored twisted pairs out like that.

I just tended to make sure the bundle was somewhere out of the way, so tripping on it would be near impossible. Oh, and floor-ducts were put in place to prevent the cable from even being stepped on.

I’m surprised they’re not having some issues.

I mean, I’ve definitely seen far worse. You have to give them some points for at least trying to do a little cable management and take some pride in their things. I’ve had users that just bunch everything together into a spaghetti pile and rest their feet on it.

What’s wrong with that? It’s working and balled up to keep from being all over the place.

I have seen much worse, that just seems like it was done quickly and never fixed.

Well I have seen worseINiqyxh.jpg

Safety issue or “OSHA violation” for those things on the floor.

For that rat’s nest, yes, I have seen some like that in person. Used to threaten to bring in the hedge clippers. Learned from that situation that you get poor performance when you daisy chain (your cat5 cables) through 5 or 6 hubs. Was during the dotCom boom.

That looks uncomfortably familiar. We have a room we call the Spaghetti Room.

shudders

I try to pretend that room doesn’t exist.

I see nothing wrong

Nice Merrels in the first photo. I have the same ones

That would bother me beyond reason. I don’t mind bundled up cables but that in particular bothers me.
