depends. what kind of position are you applying for and whats your background?

Don’t know anything about you (& have an empty profile), hence hard to say.

Can say: Keep an interview journal. Impressions, questions to ask them, and as an after interview exercise thing which may have gone smoother. The follow-up/thank-you letter can touch on any rough points, or open questions (esp. as few people do it).

The answer to this question will possibly vary depending on what type of position for which you are interviewing. Fill us in on some details about you and the position, and we might be able to help out.

In the meantime, you need to press “Tab-Q” to bring up the search box and search the forums for stuff like “Interview help” or “Interview questions”…you’ll find lots of great info that has already been posted.

Let’s see, you want us to give you information with regards to interview questions? We’d love to help you out, except you have given us nothing with which to work.

  • What is the position?
  • What experience/certification/education do you have?
  • Are you looking for technical questions (which we can’t provide until we know which position you are attempting to discuss)?
  • Are you looking for other questions?
  • Do you have the job description or advertisement in which we could even work with?

Until we have something to work with, we can only offer some general pieces of advice.

If you truly don’t know the answer to something, then don’t fake it. Tell them that you don’t know it and you will find it out.

Have some kind of answer for the typical “Where do you see yourself in five years?” question.

Have a list of questions that you have prepared to ask during the course of the interview and at the end of the interview.

Check out Liz Ryan and read her blogs. Very useful stuff that I have applied in my own interviews

If it’s to do with networking, swat up on port numbers!

Attitude > Knowledge. Willingness to learn is a big deal, because you can’t (or at least shouldn’t) be expected to know everything there is to know.

Be sure to do your research on the company you’re interviewing with and go in with a few questions that you can ask. Brush up on the broad “tell me a little bit about yourself” and expand on the points you’ve covered on your resume and cover letter. The best thing you can do is just be yourself! Best of luck on the interview!

Don’t be afraid to say you don’t know and then follow up with how you would find the answer. Don’t just say I’d Google it, give search terms based on what you do know.

Don’t try and cram on technical questions, if you know something answer confidently and casually, not like you are reciting from a book for the test. If you don’t know move on so you can be asked questions you do know.

At my company we give a tough technical interview we intentionally want to see how people do when they are faced with something they don’t know. The people who do well know how to break down a problem they don’t know into things they do know and questions to answer.

The question I always ask that gets many people is “Tell me something you’ve learned recently” with a follow up of “teach me about it.” If you’re looking for a tech job especially one where you are advancing I expect you to be learning, always. If you can’t mention something you learned and have enough acquired knowledge to speak about it that is a red flag for me. I don’t even require a technical answer, though I do prefer it.
