Hello. I’m confused by occasional email alerts I get that “companydomain.org is not responding to HTTP”. The SW settings are such that I should be notified when “Any Web Domain” cannot be reached, so it’s confusing to me why it would choose our own web domain to ping. It makes my boss wonder whether our web site/host is the problem, but our ISP confirmed the latest drop so I don’t think that’s the case. It would be nice to get some clarity on this, and to know if there’s a way to ping a specified domain such as yahoo.com rather than our own? Any insight would be most appreciated!

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Hey Bruce,

If you head over to Inventory > Cloud Services, I bet your domain is listed under a “registrar” section. If you click on your domain, you can delete it by clicking the little cog wheel.

In addition, you can adjust the timeout value for the HTTP/ping tests. To do that, head over to Settings > Cloud Services > Show Additional Settings and increase the “Cloud health check ping/HTTP timeout” value.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
Hello. I believe it is due to significant lag on the connection to the server. I’ve begun to just disregard them unless they say that the domain is not responding to PING or HTTP requests. The part that makes it less than helpful, is that the only way to see how long the site was “unreachable” for is to actually go into the SW database and look at the tables containing the ping and HTTP test results. It would be nice if it would tell when the next successful HTTP request to the server was without having to hunt it down. Unless you use a secondary monitor for your domain, there’s no good way to verify whether the issue is with your connection to the network, a spiceworks inventory scan slowing things down to a crawl, or the server itself unless you get the notification an immediately begin testing the connection from within and outside of your network. Our Web host claims that they can see traffic at the exact times of the reports, and I have forced them to place us on private IP instead of shared IP hosting to attempt to eliminate the issue. The times that I have gotten the notice while I was in office, I was able to load our site, but with significant delay.

{"@type":"Person
cw-sys-admin
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/cw-sys-admin"}},{"@type":"Answer
Interesting. (And discouraging.) Any idea why it consistently pinpoints our company domain and not just “Any Web Domain”?

{"@type":"Person
brucesteinke8757
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/brucesteinke8757"}}]}}
