Hello, everyone I am not sure if this is the correct spot to post but I figured I’d give it a shot.

I am wondering if there is a program that can either put lyrics and a song together as a lyric video would be on youtube or if there is a way to create that without going old school and using PowerPoint slides.

I am not looking to download youtube videos but to create lyric videos. Similar to how people do for youtube and then upload them. I am just not sure how to go about it and not sure if there is a program that already does that.

I want to streamline the process as much as possible I have tried messing with view programs that said they could convert songs and PowerPoint slides together and it was a disaster, the lyrics didn’t match up with the song when it went through as a video and everything was off.

I don’t want to go through the painstakingly annoying task of making PowerPoint slides and then trying to create it in a video and attach the song to it. Something that gets away from PowerPoint but with the simplicity and ease of lyric videos.

I was curious if Apple music had anything like that (i do not have apple music).

Let me know if more information is needed.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I haven’t used any of them, but a quick Google search for open source video captioning software returned a lot of results. I’d start there.

Agreed the only question is are the free versions worth anything?

They’re probably worth what you pay for them…

once upon a time i would have said iMovie, but I have not used it in a long while!

now i recommend OpenShot ( https://www.openshot.org/ )

I can’t imagine voice transcription software is going to do well with singing. Especially someone like David Lee Roth whose annunciation is atrocious.

I’m willing to bet manual is the only way to do it.

The big question is do you want the lyrics to be synched with the song or just displayed on the screen at approximately the right time? The is, are you looking to make a karaoke video or just a video that shows lyrics? The last time I made karaoke videos (~15 years ago) I used CDG Edit ( CDG Editor - Edit Karaoke CDG Files download | SourceForge.net ). It is not fun and it is not easy.

I can’t help much if you’re not trying to make a karaoke video. Like you, I would have tried PowerPoint with a few slides of lyrics (maybe 1 verse per slide?) and then just synched transitions with certain points in the song.

Thank you everyone for the replies! I didnt realize anyone had replied to this post until now. I have tried some free stuff and i was pulling my hair out trying to get it to line up correctly. I want the lyrics to be synched with song so someone could sing along to it as it goes. It is more for a group of people to sing along to the song as its playing, so it essentially needs to do both, be synced with the song and displayed on the screen at the right time as its going with the song properly.

I was more hoping there was something that could ‘marry’ the two lyrics and song together with less input. Hmmm, i wonder if writing a script for something like this would be possible? or at least a script for part of it?

Edit: Essentially, this is for a church organization. They need to be able to have songs displayed with lyrics for the congregation as this church has no worship team, so we have a few people sing along with paper sheets printed out but the congregation needs lyrics displayed, hence lyric videos instead of power point slides because its an ease of use thing. One less thing having to manually go through or make sure the power point is always correct, etc. If its a video it can just play it and let it go till the end.

You’re basically looking at what karaoke does, Lyrics On Screen With Music of the same songs.

I have not used this but it might be useful.

OpenLP

Are you looking for something like this 15 Best Subtitle Editors in 2024 for Free . Basically, you can settle down with the Premier or something but I like movavi more. It isn’t open source but it isn’t a corporate monstrosity by adobe as well. And check the how-to section of the website as well. You should find something useful.

Hello, I am literally looking for something to end up with this result in the link below:

I have MP3s and I have power points but i need to somehow merge them or marry them together to come up w/a lyric video. I don’t know how to do that. Currently, we will start playing an mp3, then we load the power point slide for the lyrics. I am trying to get away from power point and manually scrolling through the slides and covert things into a lyric video if i can, literally where you just play the file as an mp4 and it plays the lyric video.

Hope that all makes sense. Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to reply lately.

Have you tried any of the Suggestions in here yet?

@travelmore

Yes I have looked at all of them except Open shot. I will test with openshot and see how it goes. Sorry for the late replies. Again thank you for your help everyone. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hi guys! Thank you all for the helpful information as always. I found that OpenShot seems to work best for what I need. I did NOT realize how painstaking creating a lyric video is. It took me a lil over an hour to do one. From what I know from talking to others is that creating lyric videos is very time-consuming not something that comes up quickly. I am hoping that the more you do it the quicker it would become but I think its probably still time-consuming due to the fact that you have to listen to the song and match the lyrics up perfectly, etc.

Has anyone else had experience in making lyric videos?

If so, have you found once you get things down it takes you less than an hour or so?
