Hi everyone,
I’m curious what does everyone wear, whilst working in IT? I’ve heard arguments for all choices, so I was wondering what the distribution was…
Some say where business dress and look the part (I’ve found pants don’t last long when crawling around and ties get caught in places you don’t need them).
Some say Uniform, but some companies don’t supply them, so for some people this is irrelevant.
Some say Casual, but if you’re wearing your own clothes that you’d normally wear outside of work, then they don’t last quite as long.
Note: I wear casual, as this is the company policy, but I have tried my best over the last 12 months to acquire supplier tshirts for work. Makes me a walking advertisement when I do, but it makes it feel more IT related. Worth noting I’ve only managed to get a Veeam top from suppliers, so thanks Veeam, you’re awesome! =)

IT Uniform?
- Business Dress (Shirt, Tie, Trousers)
- Uniform (Polo top/Sweater and trousers)
- Casual (anything goes)

Shorts, T-Shirt, and in the case of my boss, sandals. That’s how we roll.

bluejeans and company branded polo. Cheapest and most effective clothing versus ruining far more expensive slacks and button down shirts in all the dirty and sharp corner environments I get into.
Pretty sure my new job is similar with the caveat that I’ll have to match client dress code when we meet face to face.

In IT since we have to crawl under desks, doing cabling work etc we can get away with having jeans/shirts on. IT in most companies is the exception but that might different in certain highly regulated industries.

Warmer weather: Polo, jeans, sneakers or casual shoes
Winter: Sweater. jeans, boots
Sandals… might give them a go. Tell your boss I said thanks (even more so if they’re Jesus sandals).

Old jeans, a company polo or t-shirt with some comfortable shoes and sometimes a hoodie when it’s cold.
I help out in the soil testing lab so it is wise not to wear anything nice in case you spill some chemical or worse on yourself (manure).
Warm weather = Shirt & Tie (business attire)
Cold weather = Shirt & Tie (business attire)
So hot your keyboard is melting = Shorts and T-Shirt

I work from home now so it is either sweats or shorts, a t-shirt, and no shoes!

Between Uniform and Casual. I wear jeans due to the environment, polo to look more professional, and steel toe shoes because they are required. I honestly could get away with shorts and a t-shirt, but I choose not to.
Cold weather - jeans, tshirt, and hoodie
Warm weather - shorts, tshirt
We’re pretty lax but I usually just wear solid color tshirts. I’ll wear the occasional vendor tshirt. I love my Run VPN shirt I got last year at Spiceworld that’s a play on the band Run DMC.

I work in the construction side of IT. Blue Jeans and a polo is acceptable.

Company short sleeve button shirt with jeans. Don’t have to, but I do.
I run between business casual and just casual with the occasional dress up. Keeping my day’s task in mind will help determine my mode of dress. If I have to set up workstations and cable manage: Stretchy jeans and boots.

I can go from working in the brew house where it might be 110F and then go to the bottle room where it is a nice comfortable 55f or a trip to the lagering room and its even cooler in there, (generally around 45F. so I have shorts and a tshirt as well as flannel shirts and hoodies, as well as thermal underwear…

Usually wear something like utility pants, Dickies or similar, and a polo. Rare that it would be casual enough for a t-shirt but enough people wear them for like sports finals and stuff so its not out of the realm of possibility. We do work in a hazardous environment so we need clothing that is gonna keep us clean
You’re missing “Business Casual” (polo/dress shirt, jeans) in your poll.
Really, in my company, they’d like us (the IT dept. = 2 guys) to wear polos and jeans, but it’s not exactly set in cement.
