I go by HulkSmash here, but I also go by another super name. My plan is to watch this after work today. Regal Cinema has it starting at 2 and then every hour. Anyone looking forward to this movie? It’s been a mixed bag for reviews.

I’m so far behind, I didn’t even know this was a thing…we don’t get advertisements where I’m at

I’ve got tickets for after work tomorrow. I am a big fan of superhero films in general, but I’ve found the last lot of DC either too dark or too plastic to suspend disbelief. I’m hoping that James Gunn managed to do what he did in the MCU and keep in mind that it’s based on a comic*.
* To be fair, it looks like he has from the trailers.

Definitely see the inspo from the comics.

amazon is annoying me for weeks with the trailers.
they really know how to get me off a movie
there are so many good stories and books that haven’t moviefied yet, and what do they do?

Glad I’m not the only one. LOL

I’m amused at the usual people getting mad at framing Superman as an immigrant. Good - stay mad.

Not many. Modernizing for current standards of movie distribution and projection and audio delivery wiped out most of the remaining ones over the last decade, a pricey upgrade for generally very old facilities. This one has changed hands several times over the last 20 years, someone would buy it, do major updates, promptly sell it, lather rinse repeat. The current owners just did a new screen, marquee, and some much needed repairs on the concession/projection building, and promptly put it back on the market again. The next owners should be in fairly good shape to operate without major facilities expenditures for awhile, but the price tag on it these days is pretty high. I think they want 350k for it.

That’s a lot for what amounts to a parking lot with some ‘extra features’ that you can only really use after-dark…meaning all day, it just sits there, empty. They should figure out how to monetize it during the day, so that it’s not costing them so much to own!

That’s what I’ve been saying for decades. If someone turned some daylight hours money out of it, it’d be a real winner. Sponsor a flea market venue, let a pizza delivery place operate a rural annex out of it. Open it every night for cheap/free retro movies (they do that now a couple weekday nights, big hit actually. Saw Bullit for free a couple of mondays ago). I’ve thought about pitching some things to some local entrepreneurs just to make sure it stays around. If I were financially comfortable I’d do it, could figure out something to make it swing within a year or so.

They could have kiddy go-kart races in the summer, don’t know what your winters are like, but there’s probably a lot of opportunity for fall/winter themed holiday events besides all the classic movies!

Things like that might get you into serious insurance costs, though. But maybe not too much worse than normal biz insurance, as long as you ran it right. Build a nice stage and sound, with the screen, the sky’s the limit. Don’t ever fill half of it, sell used cars from the empty half, lot of room for spit-balling in a space like that. Heck, just run a daytime park n ride shuttle into town, rural public transport and in-town parking sucks everywhere..

Maybe you should look into partnering with current ownership? They can keep “owning” it (paying the mortgage, insurance, operating costs, etc.) but you come up with ideas and help implement them to make it profitable, then split what remains after bills are paid?

Current owners are historical theater specialists from a few counties away. They picked it up just because they wanted a drive-in in their stable. But now an opportunity to buy one closer to home for them has come up, and they need to off-load this one in order to buy that one.

Ahh that’s a shame…but maybe you can find a local business partner to go in with you??
