Hai All,

I need to share one thing can you please help me in it.

I’m an Computer Science Engineer. Now I’m working as an IT support Engineer in Dubai. But I fed up with this job.because if any problem comes with patch panel.I want to go down under table and remove panel and taking tools and crimping.I hate this kind of jobs,Sometimes I feel like I have not treated as Engineer I have treated as an technician . I feel shamed as Engineer doing such kind of jobs.

Since I’m not interested in Programming I came to this Profile.

But in this profile i’m treated like this.

And I have not done any courses yet.

Is this is the nature of job for networking side?.I feel like changing to Programming side.

I need to become an networking Engineer but i don’t want to do such kind of jobs?? Is it possible??

Please advise me.waiting for your kind replay.

If you are are a Support Engineer, you may sometimes touch wires. It doesn’t stop until you are in management, generally, but I’ll will reduce as you move up the ranks. Don’t think they are being disrespectful, this is part of supporting in IT. However, if they have you doing it often, perhaps they need to call or hire a cabling tech. It’s not a great use of an engineer’s time if it’s constant because you will generally have higher leverage activities you can be doing. But messing with cables is not beneath this position.

Also consider this: programming is a different discipline. It’s worlds away from Systems. The nature of the work is very different in that you will never touch hardware.

{"@type":"Person
davidg
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/davidg"}},{"@type":"Answer
THnaks Wowitsdave.

So which one you recommend me Programming or Networking.I have a option to change because i have not done any courses in Programming as well as Networking.

Please advise!!

{"@type":"Person
akashmillan
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/akashmillan"}},{"@type":"Answer
If you don’t want to touch cables and patch panels then you need to get out of networking. It also sounds like you are wanting title and prestige but you haven’t put in the work to have either. I don’t think you are going to find satisfaction in the career path. It would be very beneficial to you to know where you want to go in life and what you want to do. One of the things that can help you is to decide what you DON’T want to do.

If you are going to do programming, chances are you will never have anything to do with plugging in a cord. If you are a network engineer, most likely you will be touching cords.

However, don’t expect to have a degree and start out at the top just because of it. We all have to pay our dues and start at the bottom. If you are looking to get into network engineering, then doing hands on technical things are part of you paying your dues.

{"@type":"Person
Bud-G
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Bud-G"}}]}}
