Good to hear. Since KES8 the support has been abit hit and miss due to high workload but all in all they do a great job. Especially since they engage with the users alot more on the forum.kaspersky.com.

Yes we switched from Symantec years ago and have no complaints.

We are switching from Symantec as well. Struggling with the Kaspersky testing but I am confident we will get there!

@all - thanks for the praise for support. It is always appreciated.
SOQR01 - good call on the Kaspersky forum as that is monitored globally 24x7.
We have eyes on Spiceworks as well; and each region has support centers with multiple contact vectors - phone, chat, email. Don’t be shy if you have a question on your testing - we are happy to help.

We switched from Symantec to Kaspersky about a year and a half ago. There were some issues as we installed KES 8 and then upgraded to 10. My advice to you is to not be afraid to reach out to their support. I noticed a few quirks that I just ignored to discover there was a PF (private fix in their parlance) that fixed the issue while trying to resolve a different issue with the application. And I would definitely take advantage of their training opportunities if you could swing it. I had the pleasure of going to the Woburn, MA office to learn how to better configure the policies to improve performance and functionality and meet some of the same people I had spoken on the phone with.

I have been emailing a guy at Kaspersky that has been forwarding my questions to an engineer. So far that has worked rather well

Hi Ray,
My symantec AV solution currently in place has a web interface that I can log into to remotely administer it. Does Kaspersky have something similar or will I always need access to the console of the AV server?

Hi Garnock12,
Kaspersky does indeed have a web interface. Please browse to http://support.kaspersky.com/ksc10#downloads and under Files, you’ll see the plug-in for the web console add-on.

i’m noticing when following the three step deployment process that at the end of step three I get s status of “Installation has successfully completed. Awaiting for application initialization”. This takes FOREVER to complete. I tried a reboot on one test system and the reboot took forever also but once it came back up all was good. Is this a known issue?

Another note - In the KES server (installed on server 2012) when I am configuring exclusions and trusted applications I try to import (or export) the list and I can not see any of my network drives. I can view those drives in windows explorer just not in the import / export routine (same issue observed when loading keys)
I did NOT have this issue when testing on Server 2008R2.

When you are deploying the agent / endpoint, do you have it set to reboot the system or do you disable that function? In order for the process for full complete, the target system must reboot, hence why your test system was good to go after you did so. When I perform mass deployments, I create a custom note upon completion requesting that the user reboot their machine at their earliest convenience.

I set it to prompt (same as I do in step 2 to remove the antivirus) but it never prompts. Step 2 does but step 3 does not. Also the deployment guide says a reboot isn’t necessary after the KES install - you may want to let the technical writers know - but you really do need to.

I have a licensing question as well. Should I PM that to someone?

In this case, I feel either Ray form Kaspersky ( http://community.spiceworks.com/profile/show/Ray%20(Kaspersky) ) or Kaspersky Support ( Kaspersky Knowledge Base ) can give you better assistance than I can, especially regarding licensing issues.

Garnock12,
this question would be best directed at you Kaspersky account manage. I believe you have been working with Justin drop him a line he should be able to help.

OK looks ashamed I had already bounced that off Justin but I wasn’t sure I agreed with his answer. Well I mean it may work at the purchase level but at the deployment level I have concerns.

Hm. I can definitely say that the application not initializing is abnormal behavior, because deployments have no issues after the successful completion besides needing the reboot. I take back what I said that they “need” the reboot; not always, but I do it anyways just so the registry entries and whatever else are posted.
You can always get a second opinion on the advice of your Account Manager by calling or chatting with Kaspersky Support.

Garnock,
I only noticed the licensing question this is the one i was referring too recommend deflecting of Justin. The prompt reboot will only come up if the endpoint protection requires it. for the most part installation should eb sucessful with out a reboot unless there was some additional drivers say from another AV vendor that will not unlod until reboot, in this case the prompt will come up.
