I attempted to download this update on Windows Server 2016 and at first it would fail at 10% and gave me the error code 0x800705b4. I researched this error code and found that it was related to Windows Defender. I turned Windows Defender back on and rebooted the Server. Now when I try to download it again it just stays stuck at 0% and when I check on it again later, Windows Update tells me again that I have this new up to download again, but it hasn’t failed with any error codes. Any suggestions?

Download the full file from the Windows catalog and install it manually - I’ve seen some KBs not install via WU but they work fine when the full file is downloaded and ran manually.

Are you using WSUS?

If so,

Change the registry key “UseWUServer” to 0. It is located at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

Restart the WSUS service and then try updating.

Remember to change it back to 1 and restart the service again afterwards.

Well after I left alone for a day it finally decided to download the update. Once it downloaded, it installed with no issues. Maybe I’ll try the registry trick that Laird suggested next month, as it seems to take forever to download updates on this particular Server.
