Here are a few frequent questions:
- Why is Spiceworks so slow after updating to 7.0? We’ve received positive feedback with the recent 7.0 patches improving performance. You can check for newer versions at the top of your Settings page. If Spiceworks feels slow or is encountering “Server Busy” error messages, check out these suggestions .
- How has the network scanning changed? There are now two types of scans. Discovery scans find new devices on your network by scanning IP ranges. Device update scans will update info for known devices by scanning based on inventory groups. You can find more information in the scan overview help document , and the video below. If devices were previously scanned properly in your inventory, but now show scan errors, see the differences between discovered IP addresses and managed devices .
- Why does my Spiceworks host server have a “scan error” in Inventory? Spiceworks scans most Windows devices using remote WMI queries. In fact, all Windows devices are scanned this way, with the exception of the device where Spiceworks is installed. We’re troubleshooting a bug where the network scanner can’t scan the Spiceworks host server, resulting in a scan error. More information is in this topic about localhost WMI querie s.
- Why am I not seeing the new faster help desk that I’ve heard about? If you’re upgrading from 6.2, you’re going to see the original help desk by default. We haven’t added all of the new features to the new Help Desk yet, and many plugins will not work with the new one. If you want to use the new Help Desk you’ll need to activate it manually .
You can check out the new help desk by just altering the URL. If you’re interested in seeing the new help desk, but without the temporary permanence of changing a setting, you can just edit the URL from /tickets to /tickets/v2. The help desk will now be in the new version until you click the Help Desk link in the navigation bar. You can also use this method to use the new help desk for most tickets, but switch back when you need access to purchasing or certain plugins.
Take a look at this video for more general info on how scanning works in 7.0 - especially if you’ve upgraded and want to learn more about the changes!
