So I’ve taken over the the “IT” role at our small company (about 18 employees) and am looking to upgrade our networking equipment to “business class” level products. We are currently using a Comcast router at one location and a Netgear R6400 Router/WNDR4000 AP at the other.

I want to have VPN capability between the two as a couple employees at our plant will need access to our Sage database.

Plant - Four concurrent Users
Main Office - Six concurrent Users and our “Server”
Would Ubiquiti’s products pretty much fit what I am looking for? The owner is really price sensitive, so I am trying keep the budget fairly low.

Yes unifi all the things. If you have a vpn between the sites you can use a single controller to do updates, look at insights on users etc

Yes, if you are looking at Unifi already, go with them. There are other options like ZyXel USG-20VPN if you want to look at other options.

Thanks for the responses. Would you recommend the Unifi Security gateway for our current needs from a VPN/Router Standpoint?

Dang you both you beat me to the punch :rage:

Yes just use Uniquiti and don’t even bother using another brand.

Owner either cares about making their business work with up front fixes or gradual improvements or they shouldn’t be in business. Depending on the industry your in, you may have legal ramifications. That’s like saying I don’t wanna pay taxes to the IRS well, you can do that but you know there are consequences if you don’t, same way if you don’t protect your clients and users information

If said owner got WannaCry then said owner either must not “cry” or will open the check book. You don’t have to spend 100K but let’s stop using price as a point to not do things right.

Sounds to me your inheritance of this infrastructure needs to be completely redone.

Do you have experience with SMB and what is your environment : windows, mac or Linux ?

+1 Unifi, no brainer

This would be my first time doing a deployment outside of my home network so no SMB experience. Currently the network is all windows but with no windows server. I am looking at the benefits of going beyond the basic Azure AD services provided with our Office 365 Subscription.

Sweet your gonna love the experience – how is your home lab setup? What’s your hardware?

My suggestions would strongly be before we affect the day to day business, let’s do some research, labbing and home work.

That would be much appreciated. Unfortunately I don’t have enough points to message you so would you be able to message me first?

 can’t wait to see how this goes

Hey OP- are you still looking for an AP recommendation? If so, I’d give Cambium Networks a look. I’d specifically recommend you look at our home and SMB solutions as well, as they’re geared towards what you’re describing in post, like the cnPilot SMB. It’s a suite of wireless home network access points supported by cnMaestro to provide end-to-end lifecycle administration, remote configuration, monitoring, and upgrades.
