I’m new to spiceworks and I have a couple of Macs on my network and they show up under Unknow Devices but how do I get them to show up as workstations with all there detail?

2 Spice ups

First, turn on SSH on your macs. You can do this through the Systems Preferences panel → Sharing.

Then, in Spiceworks, under the Settings → Network tab, double click the row that has the device range that includes the Mac and use the drop down list box for SSH to add in the SSH login credentials for that machine.

Thank you for the advise but it didnt seem to help. the same thing is happening even after I turned on ssh. when I go to test the connection from spiceworks it gives me the message “Test failed: Timeout::Error: execution expired”. I was wondering if the account needs to be the admin account, or just a user with admin privileges.

I have the same problem, interestingly enough it only happens on an older mac running OSX server 10.2. I can use putty to SSH in to the machine in question without a problem, but spiceworks gives the Timout:Error above. There are several machines on my network running 10.4, and they all work well.

I wonder if 10.2 supports SSH2?

I have the same issue, I have about 6 mac (All running 10.5) and each gives a timeout although I can ssh into them (and force version 2 with -2) and all ssh fine with the same account
