Can I replace all the memory in a Dell R610 which uses DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 2G, 1333, 2RX8X72, 8, 240, UBE with memory from a R715 which uses DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 2G, 1333, 1RX8, 8, 240, REGULATORY?

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

After doing some Googling on those parts, it looks like you are correct about it currently using unbuffered and wanting to replace with registered. You are fine and better off if you want to upgrade in the future.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Looks like the first one is ECC and the second is Non-ECC memory (potentially, I would really need the part numbers).

As a rule, never mix ECC and Non-ECC DIMMs, the two are similar in year and they are the same type/speed so in theory the two machines should support the same memory.

{"@type":"Person
preissner
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/preissner"}},{"@type":"Answer

I would guess that the one that had ecc memory had it for a reason. Might work as long as you do not mix ECC and Non ECC.

{"@type":"Person
georgemcfarlin
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/georgemcfarlin"}},{"@type":"Answer

You can swap all the memory, but using unbuffered memory will limit the max memory potential of the server. In an R610, you will only be able to have 24GB of unbuffered memory.

{"@type":"Person
ryan-xbyte
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/ryan-xbyte"}},{"@type":"Answer

Currently In the R610: ELPIDA 2gb 2rx8 pc3-10600E-9-10-EP

Want to replace it with SAMSUNG M393B5773CH0-CH9.

I’m thinking the current R610 is ECC Unregistered where the Samsung is Registered. Yes/No.

This R610 was used more for storage where the R715 (samsung) was a Hyper-V host. I want to use the R610 for Hyper -V hosting. I have another R610 that I will also be using for Hyper-V hosting and its memory, Hynix HMT125R7BFR8C-H9 looks like it is Registered so I’m pretty sure the Registered will work? Yes/No
