I was wondering if anyone might have some advice on a strange issue a user has suddenly developed

She has a Surface Pro machine (bought March 2018) and has a genuine dock plugged into it, all of a sudden (after months of use) the dock will not recognize anything plugged into any of its usb ports.

Lan and Video inputs are working fine.

I took another dock from a colleague who was having no issues and plugged his into her machine and same result.

If I plug a mouse etc into the single usb socket the unit has it works fine and I see no errors in device manager, so it is only when a dock is involved, I am wondering if there is a problem with the machines socket? using a little torch it all looks good in there but it is hard to see inside.

Any ideas?

Update the chipset drivers…

It is a common issue for surface docks, what we do here is do restart the dock. Unattached everything attached in the dock including power then put it all back again and it work fine. Sometimes blow into the sockets (before you attached everything back to the dock).

Everyone is right, update the drivers.
Boot the dock with no connections
Boot the surface while connected to the dock.
All Microsoft surface docks and hubs have an intermittent issue with video and USB functionality when the surface is connected while on.
I just have my users turn off their surfaces before connecting. It’s a pain but it ensures a positive reliable video and USB functionality.
Sad but works.

Wow, STILL. Makes me glad I got no requests for replacing our SP3’s. They just went away.

Thanks everyone, the user has been to busy for me to get another look as yet but I will have a crack soon and update you all.

Cheers
