We just replaced a domain controller, pulled all the workstations from the old domain and joined them to the new domain. On all the workstations we logged on as the end user to create their new profile, logged off and then on as the local administrator. We then took ownership of the old profile and then copied all their folders from the old profile to the new one. This has worked for me on countless computers.

I have one computer that is missing all files from their desktop and my documents folder. When I look at the old profile I no longer see the desktop or my documents folders. When copying I always do a “copy and paste” ever since losing some files using “cut and paste” about 15 years ago.

I have been looking fora possible redirected folder by searching for file names on the computer’s hard drive and also on the old domain controller.

I cannot for the life of me figure out where these files have gone.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Why don’t you download and install an undelete program and let it scan the disk?

{"@type":"Person
Briser-fae-the-broch
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Briser-fae-the-broch"}},{"@type":"Answer

You could also try recovery to a previous restore point

{"@type":"Person
Briser-fae-the-broch
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Briser-fae-the-broch"}},{"@type":"Answer

Thank you for the suggestions Briser_fae_the_broch. I checked for the previous versions earlier and there are none.

I just downloaded Recuva and ran a scan for deleted files in the User directory and found nothing.

I now have it doing a deep scan of the entire hard drive and will update as soon as I get a result.

{"@type":"Person
chrisdollar
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/chrisdollar"}}]}}
