Hi Femi,

A little more information if possible please, when you say static works, is this for reservations that already exist or if you just set a static IP on a device without any other action. Also, if you let us know what you have done so far to troubleshoot that would be great and a little more information bout your setup.

Thanks

Osman

thank you Osman,

what i mean by static is that when i manually put an ip address everything works fine

i use both wireless and cable and yet they dont get IP.

i have confirmed that i have only 1 dhcp server on the network.

it just started recently, i think it is when your lease expires you cant get a new one.

have you confirmed the DHCP service is still running?

how many leases are free ?

yes it is running. i went ahead to restart the service. now all users are on static

Hi Femi,

I think britv has it, if other devices are still working and it just isn’t giving out new addresses, I’d say you have run out. Time to clear out stale records.

Osman

total address- 154

in use -18

available - 136

when you dont get an address allocated by your dhcp server what ip-address is showing on the laptops?

I’m wondering if theres a rogue dhcp server on the network giving out incorrect (for you) address leases?

what do the dhcp logs say

is the dhcp server authorized in the domain?

1 Spice up

169.xxx.xxx.xxx

i have used “netsh dhcp show server” to confirm there are no rougue servers.

no error on the dhcp log.

and the dhcp is authorized

What DHCP server are the laptops using?

Use IPCONFIG/ALL on a laptop to diplsay this.

Is it looking for the correct DHCP server?

which dchp log are you looking at?

event log from the server manager.

could it be the DNS?

because i have my DC, DHCP and DNS on the same server

These logs you need to look at

i have checked the log,

i dont seem to understand. kindly find attached.

DhcpSrvLog-Wed.log (84.9 KB)

maybe this will help.

scope name: XXXXXXX

start ip: 192.168.20.1

end ip: 192.168.20.254

address excluded: 192.168.20.1 - 100

Check that the server is connected to the network:

If you set a pc to a static address in the correct range, can it ping the DHCP server? Can the server ping the pc? Can the server ping the default gateway? Can the pc ping the default gateway?

the server is connected.

i can ping the server from the work station and vice versa.
