Ubuntu 14.04

I read around a little but can’t find any solutions.

Initial scan fails to connect, so I tell it how to scan, using SSH and root credentials.

It tells me it’s rescanning, but then fails to inventory

I get this error:

However if you scroll down it shows open ports (22 being one of them):

I can SSH into the server using the root account just fine.

Maybe there are some logs that can help point me in the right direction, but I’m not sure where to look for those

Any help would be greatly appreciated

What version of SpiceWorks are you using?

Linux support is fairly new. Perhaps if you upgrade to the latest version you may find things easier.

If you’re wanting to take a peek at the scan logs, you can head over to C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\log

The scan logs all contain “finder” in the name. I’d go ahead and create an IP range for just that device, scan it, and then sort the logs by date. That will help you find the latest scan and you can start digging.

You should see the scan trying to reach the device via all of the available ports. Keep an eye out for when we try SSH. There may be an error there that helps out.

So I think here is the big issue

“description: Windows computer with error”

For some reason it’s reading it as a windows computer?

Hey Greg,

That could be the problem. Tell you what, let’s get a copy of your logs over this way so we can look at them together. Hold tight and I’ll shoot over an email!

In Ubuntu, closed port 3389

Spiceworks immediately saw it as Linux and inventoried it
