I came across this, http://nationaldayofunplugging.com/ and wondered. Could I do this. Could I really unplug for a full day? No computer, tablet, iPhone, Xbox or other connected device for an entire day. Since our work involves that we do, how about a weekend, or a holiday. It’ll be pretty hard.

Your thoughts.

Edit: This article is where I first saw this http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/06/tech/mobile/day-unplugging/index.html

I don’t understand. You might as well have a “give up breathing” day.

I would probably get fired if I started unplugging things tomorrow…

All you gotta do is go camping to a place with no cell phone coverage, ECT. I’m sure you have been camping before, right?

If it’s a national DAY of unplugging why is it on 7th and 8th March?

If it’s a day to get away from computers why are they using the internet to unplug it? Will they unplug the site itself over the weekend? If it crashes I hope they don’t expect any techs to be on call.

Ohhhhhhhh…my bad I didn’t read that it was a “NATIONAL” day of unplugging. LOL THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN hehe

No thanks! If I’m doing something fun, then I leave the devices/gadgets alone.

Just unplug this thing:

Unplugging oxygen tank…

But it’s wireless!

Yeah that’s not possible for me.

I don’t think it is possible for me to unplug for a half hour. Just thinking about a whole day would make me huddle in a corner, hugging my knees.

Maybe this is why my internet just stopped working today…for 5 hours.

Sure I can do it… it’s called sleep… 8 hours is one work day, right?

Aww hells yeah! Revolution style baby, lol.

In all seriousness. I could do it, I think. There was a time not all that long ago where I did not have a fancy cell phone that could do all of the things smartphones are capable of. When I was a Radio Operator in the Marines, I was the go to person in my unit for Retrans missions. For anyone who does not know what that is, basically radios on opposite sides of a mountain cannot talk to one another without line of site so you bring 2 radios on top of a mountain and connect them together to effectively pass the signal over the mountain.

Anyway while up there on top of a mountain for a week, I had no phone, no computer, no TV, nothing but a few books. So there you go, effectively unplugged. It’s actually not all that difficult when you think about it. Contrary to what most people believe you are not going to die if you don’t have Facebook for a day. In may be inconvenient but it is easily possible.

What is impossible is to completely unplug everything electronic. It would not be good to start unplugging machines in a hospital for instance but I don’t think that is the point of National Day of Unplugging.

I always end up gaming in my sleep. Or dreaming that I am anyway. So I don’t know if that would count.

Can’t we make it a Monday?

I’m not doing that to myself on a Friday.

On a national level, no never gonna happen. Personally, I’ll wait till it’s a perfect 68 degrees and sunny…

That’s like the otherwise perfectly capable CSR for an airline who told me the other day that in the last few months ‘they upgraded the internet’ (meaning their website).
