Need Urgent help

So instead of applying a software gpo to a vm I applied it directly to my workstation for testing purposes. Im deploying Java with a gpo. I can now log into my computer through safe mode only.

Booting into windows regular mode hangs at “Please wait”.

I have unapplied the policy but it is still stuck in there and I cant get to a login prompt for windows. Need thoughts or ideas. Really don’t want to have to redo my computer.

Tried last known good configuration. Do not have restore points.

I know there is a folder somewhere with applied gpo settings and if you delete the items within, it forces gp to re-apply policies. Anyone know what im talking about? Hoping to delete this and then restart letting me into the computer.

the lazy mans solution is to wait up to 24 hours and the gpos will be reapplied by them selves.

If all of the aboive fail. try logging on in safe mode and update the Java manually. Once you get this fixed, file this away for future reference:

“Don’t try things for the first time, on a production machine.” (I speak from experience.)

Quick responses guys lol, thought I was gonna be the first response. Machine had the computer account reset. Ill try removing, renaming, and re-adding next.

If I cant fix it sooner, hopefully your right Bernalillo.

Deleted that file, BSOD, gpupdate /force boot fails both user and computer out of safe mode. Restart brings it back to the hanging state of please wait.SPS

Run msconfig in safemode and run the diagnostic start-up or selective start-up and deselect “load startup items”

Try looking for the process in regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (or other such key there are several that run at startup) that process has to be started from somewhere and you should be able to find it in the registry.

Oh, No Dan, before my edit I said that the idea was brilliant. Hadnt thought of it. But then was greeted with the sorry no installer service in safemode. I in no way shape or fashion thought you were trying to be a jerk. Im looking for any and all ideas lol.

Pulled from domain. Logged in, installed latest java. Adding back to the domain now, and hopefully no hangup. Will let you guys know. thanks for the quick replies all.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

Steps to resolve my idiocy were as follows. Log into safe mode.

Remove the computer from the domain.

restart. Login to regular mode, install the latest java.

Rename computer. Add back to domain. Delete old computer account from domain. Im back in action.
