Hi-

I’m a one man IT consultancy in NYC. I’m looking to subcontract out certain tasks/jobs, but I need some guidance on how to evaluate and structure pricing for billable hours.

Actually, I’m not even sure what the going hourly rates are for some tasks (computer/printer setup, software install, network/infrastructure documentation, desktop troubleshooting, server troubleshooting, etc.). I’ve always done everything myself and billed the same rate. Now I need focus more on the business side and contract out for some of the tech tasks. Any guidance is appreciated.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Best advice is to figure out the rule of thirds on everything. 1/3 for you, 1/3 for employee/business costs and 1/3 for saving.

The cost is dependent on your area. In Manhattan we charge at a much higher rate than we do in rural Western NY. We charge a rate for basic setup/basic helpdesk tasks, one for L2 Engineering, one for L3 Engineering one for Consulting and one for PBX Engineering.

I would be happy to answer specific questions via PM if you would like.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
