Hi All,

I have two Netgear switches. One is a GS724TP and I can Tag ports on VLAN ID 1. The other is a GS752TP and when I try and Tag ports on VLAN ID 1 I get “VLAN was not created by the user”. I have installed and booted to the latest firmware which still gives me the same result.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can Tag ports on VLAN 1?

Reset to factory defaults.

That device comes by default with VLAN’s 1-2-3 and has integrated QoS for Voice on 2, AV on 2

PVID on all ports is 1 by default. So, if you put a VLAN on the device as untagged it and 1 are essentially the same thing. So, when you setup your own VLAN’s it will look like this…You can change the default untagged and PVID for the network you want on the port you want. Simply pretend that 1 2 3 are not there. You cant remove them anyway :slight_smile:

Try changing the PVID to another VLAN first - Switching > VLAN > Advanced > PVID

Then try tagging the port as VLAN 1 instead of the default untagged.

IMO - best case, ignore the resident VLAN’s and if anything assume that 1 is the same as your default untagged VLAN. In in my second image 1 and 10 for PVID is essentially the same thing as they will both talk to the same network (untagged) and catch IP’s from the same subnet and DHCP scope.

mysteryenduser - I can edit VLAN 1 on other Netgear switches though.

I have had stranger things happen straight out of the box. Try it anyway, it only takes 2 minutes.

Kieran - I changed port 1’s PVID to 4…which then untagged it from VLAN1, but when I try and Tag it get the same message.

Sure, and in some you cant run any VLAN’s, On the 75x series you got what you got. We use a TON of them at ancillary facilities and have never had an issue. We had one that would not propagate PoE on a port out of the blue…Netgear replaced it FedEx two day at no cost, no argument no nothing “where do we ship it to” was the extent of the conversation.

I’ll pull one of those models out now and double check on the unit.

I was able to replicate the message if I do not add a VLAN to a port and try to apply a PVID to a port for a VLAN that the port does not know. User error.

Hi All,

I spoke with Netgear via the support chat. Basically because I am still using the default VLAN1 for everything else, all I needed to do what to Tag the trunk ports both ends and the port the AP is plugged into on VLAN4. Works a dream. Thanks for all your help.
