Dear Spicey people

we are thinking of using the spiceworks network monitoring tool, however we would like to know how much impact it will have on the server our spiceworks set up is on and if the tool itself will cause a network slowdown while its looking at the network activity.

If anyone out there already has it and can help I would love to talk to you

thanks

Dave

2 Spice ups

We have recently just started using it our self, we had it scanning about 280 assets with 100mb speed with a 1gb backbone. This was run on a basic application use server, quad core AMD with 16gb of RAM.

All in all we had no noticeable performance drops or cut outs.

Cool thanks for coming back to me

Not a problem, glad I could help

One small question

We have installed this on our main spiceworks server, however we have noticed on the documentation that it needs to be installed on a different server, will this cause an issue ? is the documentation correct?

any thoughts on that ?

Thanks again

Dave

I tried the network monitoring tool and uninstalled it. It went to shambles right after I set up all my targets for monitoring. I needed it, and it was unavailable. After that it needed a reset every five or six minutes.

I instead installed a copy of Ubuntu Server in a VM, then sudo apt-get cacti. I never looked back.
